Cooperation in statistics education in Latin America

Organiser

Abstract

Valuable information is the key for success in all areas of knowledge. It is through statistics that data become relevant to researchers, educators, managers and general public.

Communication amongst statistical educators of different institutions in Latin American countries should be improved. Internet and other electronic means must be fully utilized. The limited economic and human resources should be optimized to reach common objectives. Inter/multidisciplinary teams could help with the creation and implementation of well structured programs at the different educational levels and with the reinforcement of those already functioning.

Working co-operatively and exchanging long-term experiences among regions with similar characteristics is essential to detect actual needs and to provide some guideliness to satisfy them.

Sharing and combining resources and capabilities will help to reach the ultimate goal which is to have citizens with a better statistical education.
