Mass media and statistics

Organiser

Abstract

Nowadays information is being generated with amazing speed and much of it is being disseminated by the mass media in various statistical forms. The mass media is therefore an importer and an exporter of statistics which, in turn, leads to the need for reporters, editors and readers to be knowledgeable in statistics. On the other hand, the mass media has also become a rich resource for statistical education. In this session, we shall see how educators effectively make use of the mass media in their teaching of statistics. New media forms and new technology also play an important role in this area.
