Teaching probability to future teachers of mathematics and statistics

Abstract
In this session, issues related to teaching probability for future mathematics and statistics teachers will be discussed. It will be of interest to discuss the contents and special activities that teachers use to organize their classroom activities. A basic question will be proposed to each participating speaker: What differences in teaching approach should be considered when comparing courses for future teachers to other kinds of courses? Other issues to be focused on include theoretical considerations relating to such courses, and the intensity of mathematics and statistical concepts presented in the course. For instance: How much importance is given to the discussion of combinatorial arguments and contingency tables? How important is students’ participation in learning activities of probability concepts. Reports of experiences of teaching probability to future mathematics and statistics teachers would be welcome, particularly if they had a theoretical basis, and were supported by appropriate empirical evidence.
