This is a session of Topic 6: Innovations in teaching probability
Session 6B (Tuesday 10th, 16:00-17:30, Level 3 - Conference Room C)
Learning Conditional Probability, Part 2
Organizer
- Andreas Eichler (Germany)
Abstract
Conditional probabilities Part 2– and as a specific part of this subject – the Bayes‘ formula are important strategies to dealing with risk in situations of uncertainty. Unfortunately, learners struggle to understand concepts concerning conditional probabilities. Particularly, visual representations of situations of uncertainty that require to deal with conditional probabilities or rather the Bayes' formula seem to facilitate leraners' understanding of these situations. In this session we discuss research referring to innovations in teaching conditional probabilities with a specific focus on visualization. The session should include 3 papers. After a presentation of a paper, a discussant should raise main questions to the paper and also should raise questions that connect the different papers.
