Abstract
Children’s informal experiences with data and chance in primary and middle school should provide a platform for sustaining their interest and intuitive understanding of information throughout their school years. Intuitive understandings should be developed into sound statistical reasoning and thinking through tasks and activities embedded in the process of a statistical investigation, providing the conceptual groundwork for sustained engagement in statistics. This session will consider ways in which young students can be supported to take ownership of their learning in statistics through different and innovative teaching approaches, assessment and the use of technology.
