This is a session of Topic 10: Innovative collaboration in statistics education
Organizer
Abstract
This session aims to bring together and communicate collaborations between institutions of higher education with schools and also with industry. Collaborations may include partnerships that link environmental theoretical synergies of universities and colleges, with the actual practice in elementary and secondary schools, and with subsequent practice in industry.
The challenge faced by many countries to incorporate statistics in the school curriculum, has opened channels of communication between Universities and Schools. These channels permit opening schools to contributors and/or researchers, and implementing models and methodologies of teaching. They may strengthen research findings in Statistics Education, contribute to the improvement of learning and teaching of prospective and in-service teachers.
Many university-school partnerships contribute to the curriculum and its implementation in the classroom, others may contribute with activities for teaching of statistics through textbooks; generate research projects, longitudinal studies and theoretical findings from universities; or promote technical support through information technologies developed in universities to respond to the needs of schools and school communities.
A complementary set of collaborations between industry and academia may enhance human resource development. These projects can prepare students for the workplace of tomorrow, through hands-on practical and transferable skills-based experience in industry environment during industrial training.
Papers for this session are currently being arranged.
