Abstract
The Internet provides a vast resource for data that are of scientific and topical importance and have great potential for statistics education at all levels. These data sets offer an opportunity for the instructor to go beyond textbook examples and engage students in the investigation of scientific questions. For example, large databases, such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and Census, invite the public to explore and analyze their data, and collections, such as the Data Analysis and Statistics Library, offer a multitude of data sets that statisticians have found useful in their teaching. Relevant questions to be addressed in this session are: how do we use these rich scientific resources to provide opportunities for investigations in statistics courses, what standards and meta information would help statisticians be able to use these data, and how might various alternative analyses of data be shared for educational purposes?Papers
