Topic 5

Statistics education in the workplace, government and across disciplines

Convenors

Abstract

The aim of the sessions under this topic include bringing together statistics educators within or across disciplines, professionals who work with institutional data or provide or analyze official data, practitioners who work as statistical consultants, and data scientists and/or data analysts. Our goal is so that we can learn from each other to better prepare current students for the workplace regardless of their future profession and create opportunities for professional development of current employees. Proposals may include, but are not limited to, discussions of professional development, on-site education, or career development within secondary, tertiary or out-of-school settings. With the increased importance of “big data” it is becoming more and more important to emphasise the ethical aspects of statistical practice during disciplinary education and within workplaces; therefore papers and presentations addressing ethics in statistics in relation to these contexts would also be invited within this topic.
