Abstract

In Korea, second grade of high school students learn sample mean. They find it difficult learning about expectations and standard deviations of sample normals. In this paper, the case study on the interpretation of the expectation and the standard deviation of the sample mean is studied and the improved method of teaching is suggested. Based on some teaching experiments on the sample mean, the lessons using engineering tools are in progress. In the teaching experiment, students extract n = 10, 20, and 30 samples using the decision extraction and random extraction methods in the population. The mean and standard deviation of the sample mean obtained from each case are compared with the mean and standard deviation, and the common points and differences are searched.
