Abstract
In three presentations and a discussion, this session will explore the structure, teaching, implementation and evolution of evidence-based medicine (EBM). EBM requires quality research, clinical expertise, and sound administration. Consequently, researchers, clinicians and administrators must be well-trained and highly skilled, and patients and the public must be sufficiently educated about EBM to participate effectively. Staff education must include the technology of medical research and of the discipline, strategies and methods of statistics. A combination of learning opportunities is required, including courses in research and statistics during early training, learning appraisal of professional publications and guidelines, training and mentoring in EBM, a range of opportunities for continuing education, and active involvement in local and international health research. Also in this session, the EBM enterprise will be discussed in regard to the wider project of moving towards an evidence-based society.Papers
