Florence Nightingale (d.1910): passionate educator?

Presenter

Abstract

Florence Nightingale (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910) is well-known as a “passionate statistician”, as well as “the lady with the lamp”. However, she should be remembered primarily not as a nurse, but as a prototype 21st-century evidence-based health manager. Her work included important pedagogic innovations in popular understanding of statistics as well as professional training. This paper will discuss her work, her legacy, and its relevance for the coming century.
