Abstract

There are many challenges facing the introduction of statistics in the school curriculum. In general, it is found that the subject of statistics has a very steep learning curve. South Africa is currently in the process of implementing C2005, a new school curriculum in South Africa. The content of statistics in the school curriculum poses many challengers to the teachers as well as the learners. There are currently some effective programmes that assist teachers in coping with the impartation of statistics knowledge to the students. The emphasis of this paper is to look at the challenges of teaching statistics in South Africa and the strategies implemented to help teachers and ultimately learners.
