Using GENSTAT at school level for free – a New Zealand experience 1

Organisers

Abstract

Free, easy to use GENSTAT software has been provided for use in New Zealand schools. The software supports all sections of the new statistics curriculum from junior to senior high school. It is potentially available for primary schools. Extensive graphics for dealing with many types of data are available along with procedures for regression, time series, estimation and randomization. In this session, lessons are described and illustrated by a practicing and experienced school teacher from a large high school that has introduced GENSTAT SCHOOLS as its preferred statistics package. The software can be used at home, can have data input directly from R and Excel, and is being developed for biology teachers involved with advanced project work in their subject. Some videos will be shown of girls at work and their comments will be reported. Procedures for gaining access to this free software are described.
