Has there been a change in the nature and the level of statistical skills assessed in statewide mathematics university entrance level examinations since the introduction of the graphics calculator?
Since the late 1990s, the use of graphics calculators with sophisticated statistical capabilities have been assumed in statewide mathematics university entrance level examinations in the State of Victoria, Australia. In this paper, a comparison of the type of questions asked in the statistic’s component of these examinations before and after the introduction of the graphics calculator will be made with the aim of determining whether there has a been change in the nature and level of statistical skills assessed.
