Abstract
This session will demonstrates Japanese recent several movements on education for biostatistics in the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE), medical universities, medical institutes, and the Biometric Society of Japan. The JUSE have provided several statistical education programs for pharmaceutical industries since 1970s, such as, Statistical Analysis Course for Clinical Testing, Biomedical Statistics Seminar(BioS), Medical Writing Seminar and Pharmacoepidemiology Seminar. BioS was established in 1990 and have educated more than 1400 practitioners in pharmaceutical industries. New biostatistical master course programs sponsored by Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association(JPMA) will start in Tokyo and Kyoto universities in 2018. The Biometric Society of Japan initiated the system of qualification for a trial statistician to guarantee quality of statistics in clinical trials in 2017. The Japan Clinical Oncology Group(JCOG) in National Cancer Center Hospital provides several on the job training programs for biostatistics targeting medical practitioners. This session will illustrate these programs and discuss the issues and future of the education systems for biostatisticians in clinical trials.
