Professional development programs for statistics teachers: The role of commitment

This paper contains the main results of a experience of continue training in which teachers of elementary, middle and high school participated. To participate in a training program implies a mutual commitment among teachers. From the theory of social practice, the mutual commitment is related with the teachers´ identity and this refers to both the practice and the relationships that are established between the subjects who develop it.
The mutual character of the commitment implies that in these groups, hierarchical relations are not established, but, on the contrary, everyone looks at each other in conditions of horizontality. The recognition of the other and willingness to be part of the continuous training program favored mutual commitment and the consolidation of peer relationships around the same practice.
