The learning and teaching of statistics using TinkerPlots in a teacher education course

Raquel Santos ( UIIPS)

Statistical education preconizes that teacher education programs should give prospective teacher a more active role, using real and authentic contexts. In the present society that also involves the use of technology. The purpose of this study is to examine the perspectives of prospective elementary and kindergarten teachers when using the software TinkerPlots to learn and teach statistical concepts, when enrolled in a course of their teacher education program. Findings from this study offer insight into prospective teachers' statistical and pedagogical content knowledge based on the experience of using the software and teaching the classmates with it. Findings also indicate that both the use of the software and the process of teaching a lesson to their classmates bring some difficulties to the prospective teachers.
