Abstract

Women are underrepresented in the R community. R-Ladies is a worldwide organization with a mission to increase gender diversity through meetings and mentorship. Currently, there are more than 50 R-Ladies chapters, in more than 20 countries. Each chapter brings together women from different disciplines, with varying degrees of R and statistics knowledge at different stages of their career. In this paper, we report statistics from the global R-Ladies community, as well as, local chapters in the United States, Argentina, and Turkey. In addition, we share our experiences regarding logistics of running a chapter and teaching statistics in a community setting in three different continents. We present the impact of this network and some of the challenges that we faced.
